STAR BASE Employee Selected to Java's Rock Star Hall of Fame

Matt Warman voted as a top presenter at 2008 JavaOne Conference

CINCINNATI - July 31, 2008 - STAR BASE Consulting, Inc. today announced that Matt Warman, a consultant and team leader at STAR BASE, was recently selected as a Java Rock Star by attendees at the 2008 JavaOne Conference, which took place May 5-9, 2008 in San Francisco. As a result, Warman's name was added to Java's Rock Star Wall of Fame web page where members of the Sun Developer Network can gain access to his entire presentation.

The presentation by Warman and David Koelle from Charles River Analytics titled, "Jamming with Java Technology: Making Music with JFugue and JFRets," explained how to use the two open source applications to play, program and create new music. JFugue is an open-source API that opens the door to more-advanced music programming and exploration by enabling users to program music and musical tools without worrying about the complexities of MIDI. JFrets is built on top of JFugue and can be used to interactively teach guitar by displaying note names and finger positions, playing music in real time, and producing guitar tabs.

"It was a great opportunity to be selected to present at the largest Java event, and to be recognized by my peers as a Java Rock Star, among so many other quality presenters, is an amazing compliment," said Warman. "The conference was an amazing showcase of talent and genius of what can be done with Java technology, and it was fun to share my knowledge and experience about music programming using Java with the Java developer community."

Individuals who receive Java Rock Star status are voted on by conference attendees and are recognized for their outstanding session content and speaking ability. Presenters that rank in the top 25 percentile are added to Java's Rock Star Wall of Fame, which recognizes members for their contributions to JavaOne conference education, and their commitment to the technology community. There has only been 100 Java Rock Stars since the Wall of Fame was introduced in 2004.

JavaOne is Java's biggest annual event, attracting more than 15,000 attendees to the Moscone Center for keynotes, vendor exhibits, technical sessions and a chance to collaborate with the world's brightest Java developers.
